Nurse Gives Woman the Wrong Baby, Then New Mother Turns Pale — Story of the Day

Before discharge, a nurse examined Lucy’s newborn twins. But when she returned, Lucy was shocked—the nurse handed her two girls, though Lucy had given birth to a boy and a girl.
Lucy and her husband Ross had longed for children, and they were thrilled to be expecting twins. Ultrasounds had confirmed one boy and one girl. So when both babies handed back were girls, Lucy panicked.
“What happened to my son?” she demanded. The nurse, Savannah, insisted there was no mistake, but Lucy had proof otherwise. Tension escalated until Dr. Linda Carter stepped in. Suspecting an error, she checked the records and realized Savannah had confused Lucy with another patient named Lucy Matthews.
Dr. Carter apologized, but Lucy sensed something was off and followed them. Outside Dr. Carter’s office, Lucy overheard a confession: Savannah had intentionally switched Lucy’s son with her late sister’s baby girl. Her sister died in childbirth, and Savannah, unable to adopt the child herself, believed Lucy and Ross could give her niece a better life.
Dr. Carter was stunned but promised to correct the situation. Lucy’s son was returned, and although Lucy didn’t report Savannah, the baby girl haunted her thoughts.
The next day, Lucy told Ross she wanted to adopt the baby girl. Though hesitant at first, Ross changed his mind after holding her. The couple completed the adoption and named her Amelia.
Savannah, grateful and emotional, often visits the family. The Matthews’ home is now filled with love for their three children: Mark, Sia, and Amelia.
