THE WEDDING INVITATION THAT BROKE OUR FAMILY

When my cousin Lisa got engaged, I was thrilled. We were close, and I expected to be at her wedding. But as the date neared, I never received an invitation.

When I asked, Lisa said they were having a very small Vegas weddingjust ten guests—due to budget issues. I was disappointed, but I understood.

A week later, she sent out a GoFundMe link asking for donations to fund a $15,000 luxury honeymoon to Bora Bora. I was stunned—she couldn’t invite us to the wedding but had no problem asking us for money?

Still, I let it go… until the wedding day.

I got an Instagram notification: Lisa was live-streaming her wedding. But it wasn’t a small Vegas event. It was a lavish ballroom affair with dozens of guests, crystal chandeliers, a live band—everything.

She had lied.

Family group chats exploded with anger. Many of us had donated to the honeymoon fund, thinking we weren’t invited due to financial constraints. Lisa tried to backpedal, claiming “last-minute sponsorships” helped fund the big wedding, but no one believed her.

People started pulling their donations, and Lisa eventually deleted the GoFundMe.

She and Jake got their dream wedding—but they lost the family’s trust.
