Christian Brückner, the main suspect in Madeleine McCann’s 2007 disappearance, has spoken publicly for the first time from his German prison cell. With his potential release set for September, authorities have launched a final search effort in Portugal, hoping to uncover new evidence.
In a prison interview, Brückner—serving time for an unrelated rape—claimed innocence and criticized the media for portraying him as a “monster.” He said he plans to flee to a country without an extradition treaty if released and dreams of “a steak and beer.”
German investigators are currently searching 120 acres near his former Algarve home, focusing on wells and ruins. Though named a suspect in 2020, Brückner has never been charged in Madeleine’s case and declined to answer direct questions about her during the interview.
