vI’ve Worked for Decades—I Won’t Postpone My Retirement for My Daughter

After working nonstop since I was 19—raising my daughter alone, juggling two jobs, and skipping vacations—I’m finally ready to retire at 65. It’s a dream I’ve held onto for years.

But my daughter asked me to delay retirement to become her full-time, unpaid nanny. I said no.

She accused me of being selfish and guilt-tripped me, saying, “After everything you did for me, can’t you do this one thing for your grandkids?”

Honestly, I’ve done more than enough. I was her rock for decades, and now I need to rest. I didn’t work 40+ years just to jump into another unpaid job.

Now she’s upset, her husband’s distant, and even my sister calls me selfish. But no one helped when I was overwhelmed raising a child alone.

I love my grandkids, but I’m choosing to enjoy my retirement. Is that so wrong?
