After my father’s funeral, my sister Megan inherited a luxury Miami apartment and part of his construction company.

I received an old cabin and 200 acres in the Adirondacks.

Megan laughed.

“That worthless shack is perfect for you.”

Even my mother suggested I let Megan manage the property because I was busy with my Army career.

I refused.

That night, I finally drove to the cabin. From the outside, it looked exactly as bad as Megan had described. But inside, everything was surprisingly well maintained.

Then I found an old photograph of Dad with a woman named Rose.

On the back, he had written:

“The place where everything began.”

A retired Marine named Jack soon arrived and told me my father had left one final instruction.

“Check beneath the kitchen floorboard.”

I lifted the loose plank and discovered a hidden metal box containing property documents, geological surveys, and a letter from Dad.

My hands began to shake.

The land beneath the cabin contained valuable mineral deposits potentially worth tens of millions of dollars.

Megan thought she had inherited the real prize.

She had no idea Dad had deliberately hidden the truth from her.

He hadn’t left me a worthless cabin.

He had left me a fortune—and a legacy he trusted me to protect.

After my father’s funeral, my sister Megan inherited a luxury Miami apartment and part of his construction company.
