\u201cI got my mom to play older Allie, and we spent a lot of time talking about Alzheimer\u2019s and wanting to be authentic with it, and now, for the last five years, she\u2019s had Alzheimer\u2019s,\u201d said Cassavetes, whose grandmother, actress Lady Rowlands, also had Alzheimer\u2019s. \u201cShe\u2019s in full dementia. And it\u2019s so crazy \u2014 we lived it, she acted it, and now it\u2019s on us.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the end, Cassavetes feels good about the film he and his mother worked on together. He said it \u201cholds up pretty good\u201d 20 years later. \u201cIt\u2019s always a shock to hear that as much time has gone by as it has, but it makes sense. I\u2019m just happy that it exists. It seems to have woIrked and I\u2019m very proud of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
