Well, except for one tiny detail that\u2019s been driving me up the wall.<\/p>\n
Monica puts on this sweet act whenever we\u2019re face to face. She\u2019ll hug me and call me \u201csweetheart\u201d and \u201cdarling,\u201d but behind the scenes? That\u2019s where the real show begins.<\/p>\n
I remember this one time when Richard and I were hosting a family BBQ. I was preparing the salads in the kitchen when I overheard her talking to Richard\u2019s cousin in the living room.<\/p>\n

It began three months ago when Monica excused herself to use the bathroom during a dinner party.<\/p>\n
We have a neat guest bathroom right next to the living room downstairs. But no. She just had to use the one in our master bedroom upstairs.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, I just prefer more private bathrooms,\u201d she\u2019d said when Richard questioned her choice. \u201cYou never know who\u2019s used these guest bathrooms.\u201d<\/p>\n
I thought it was odd but didn\u2019t say anything.<\/p>\n
I waited a few minutes after she went upstairs, then quietly followed her.<\/p>\n
\u201cMonica? What are you doing in here?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOh! Katie!\u201d she turned around, looking at me with wide eyes. \u201cI was just looking for the bathroom.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I\u2026 I got turned around. These big houses can be so confusing. So many doors!\u201d She gave a nervous laugh. \u201cThough while I\u2019m here, I noticed your dresser could use some organizing. I\u2019d be happy to show you my method sometime\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
That night, I told Richard everything after she left.<\/p>\n
\u201cRich, your mother was going through our personal stuff! Our private documents! Our drawers!\u201d I was pacing back and forth in our bedroom. \u201cThis isn\u2019t okay! What was she even looking for?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cCome on, Katie,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m sure she was just confused. Mom wouldn\u2019t do that. She probably just got lost looking for the bathroom.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cLost? This isn\u2019t the first time she\u2019s done this, and you know it. Enough is enough! I\u2019m installing a lock on our bedroom door. The same kind we put on the home office.\u201d<\/p>\n
I need to lock the door, I reminded myself.<\/p>\n
However, I couldn\u2019t find the key anywhere. I looked for it for about 30 minutes before Richard confessed he had it.<\/p>\n
\u201cOkay, fine,\u201d I said. \u201cOn one condition. Let me put some glitter on the doorknob. If your mom doesn\u2019t try to get in, there won\u2019t be any problem, right?\u201d<\/p>\n
He agreed, probably thinking I was being ridiculous.<\/p>\n
We ran upstairs and saw Monica standing in front of our bedroom door, covered head to toe in golden glitter.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou!\u201d Monica was looking like a furious disco ball.<\/p>\n
