Keep the seat.\u201d Once we were airborne, I pulled out a giant bag of chips and made\u00a0<em>very sure<\/em>\u00a0I claimed every inch of space I\u2019d paid for \u2014 jostling him, bumping elbows,<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">taking up space unapologetically. He finally snapped and called over a flight attendant. She checked the records and confirmed:\u00a0<em>I<\/em>\u00a0owned both seats. He was ordered back to 22C. As he stomped away, his girlfriend hissed, \u201cYou really needed two seats just for being fat?<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1588980\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Pathetic.\u201d I calmly reported her comment to the flight crew. The attendant took it seriously and filed a harassment report. When we landed, I made sure the airline had it in writing. Days later, I got an email: the couple had been flagged, and I was credited 10,000 bonus miles for the mistreatment. That flight reminded me of something important: people like me are constantly told to shrink, to make ourselves invisible. But I paid for my space \u2014 and I deserve to exist in it fully. And next time someone tries to shame me out of it?
