Liam Payne, the former One Direction band member, died on October 16 after falling from the balcony of his third-floor room at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.<\/p>\n
Payne traveled to Argentina on September 30 to watch One Direction co-star\u00a0Niall Horan\u00a0on tour after. Previously, he joked about wanting to \u201csquare up a couple of things\u201d with his former bandmate.<\/p>\n
While there, Payne shared videos of himself and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, who left the country two days prior to her boyfriend\u2019s tragic passing.<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cI was just like, \u2018I need to go home.\u2019 I was so happy to be home. It was so relieving.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the last photo he shared on his social media, Payne posed alongside Cassidy. It has been reported that he died minutes later.<\/p>\n
On that tragic day, a worker at the hotel called 911 and reported a guest who was \u201cbehaving erratically.\u201d After smashing his laptop, Payne was forced into his room.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a guest who is off his head on drugs and alcohol, and well, when he is conscious he is destroying everything in the room,\u201d the worker who made the call said. \u201cAnd we need you to send someone, please.\u201d<\/p>\n
The report from National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor\u2019s Office No. 14. stated that Payne died from \u201cpolytrauma, internal and external hemorrhage,\u201d further stating that he was \u201cgoing through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n
The case is being investigated as a \u201cdoubtful death,\u201d though it appears Payne was alone at the time of the fall.<\/p>\n
Sadly, Payne wasn\u2019t a stranger to substance abuse. In fact, he was open of his struggles with \u201cpills and booze\u201d addiction at the height of his fame.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the band\u2026 the best way to secure us, because of how big we\u2019d got, was just to lock us in our rooms. What\u2019s in the room? A mini-bar,\u201d he said in a 2021 interview on the The Diary of a CEO podcast. \u201cSo at a certain point I thought, I\u2019m just going to have a party-for-one and that seemed to carry on for many years of my life.\u00a0Then you look back at how long you\u2019ve been drinking and you\u2019re like, \u2018Jesus Christ, that\u2019s a long time.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
In May 2023, he shared with his fans that he was 100 days sober and feeling great about it.<\/p>\n
His former bandmates released a joint statement.<\/p>\n
Payne\u2019s One Direction bandmates also released a joint statement on his death this afternoon:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re completely devastated by the news of Liam\u2019s passing,\u201d the Hollywood Reporter. \u201cIn time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.\u201d<\/p>\n
