Beatrice arrived at her daughter-in-law Camilla’s restaurant with 38 friends and announced proudly, “Order whatever you want. I’m paying!”
But Beatrice had no intention of paying a cent.
Camilla knew exactly what was happening. Instead of stopping them, she smiled and told her manager, “Give them everything they ask for.”
For three hours, the women enjoyed expensive steaks, seafood, desserts, and the restaurant’s finest wine.
Then the bill arrived: $23,289.
Beatrice laughed. “Put it on the family account.”
Camilla quietly placed a folder beside the bill.
Inside were copies of Beatrice’s son Lucas’s secret bank withdrawals, proof of his affair, and—most importantly—the divorce papers Camilla had just received.
Beatrice’s smile vanished.
“You thought I was going to keep paying for your family’s lies?” Camilla asked calmly. “The restaurant is mine. The debt is yours. And Lucas is no longer my husband.”
The room fell silent.
For the first time, Beatrice realized the woman she had treated like a servant had been in control all along.
Camilla picked up the folder and walked away.
Behind her, Beatrice finally whispered, “What have we done?”
And Camilla never looked back.
