Narcissism is often misunderstood. While narcissists can be self-absorbed and grandiose, it’s actually a spectrum. At one end, there’s the charming leader, while at the far end are individuals with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), who exhibit extreme behaviors like manipulation and lack of empathy.
There are six key traits to look for in a narcissist:
- Constant Lies & Exaggeration: Narcissists often inflate their accomplishments or portray themselves as victims to gain attention and sympathy.
- Never Admitting They’re Wrong: They avoid admitting mistakes and react defensively when challenged.
- Rationalizing Anything: They twist situations to make their actions seem justified, even when they’re wrong.
- Projecting a False Image: They carefully craft a perfect image of themselves, regardless of the reality behind it.
- Using or Controlling Others: Narcissists use people around them to meet their needs, often using guilt or manipulation.
- Creating Drama: They thrive on causing unnecessary conflict and emotional chaos.
