Maya was born missing her left hand due to a rare condition

Though her parents raised her as “normal,” Maya began hiding her disability at 13 out of self-consciousness and fear of rejection. For 25 years, she covered her hand, feeling ashamed and isolated.
At 38, meeting someone who fully accepted her helped Maya embrace her limb difference. This changed her life, leading to better self-care, stronger relationships, and her role as an advocate for disability inclusion.
She wrote Singlehandedly and now encourages others to “unhide” what they’re hiding to find real connection and freedom. Maya sees disabilities as part of diversity, urging respect, education, and open dialogue.
