My In-Laws Left My Mom at a Restaurant to Avoid Paying the Bill – Too Bad My Mom Had a Plan of Her Own

For years, my wealthy in-laws had a habit of “forgetting” their wallets at dinner, leaving others to foot the bill. I was always frustrated, but nothing changed. Then, on my mother-in-law’s 60th birthday, they invited my mom to a fancy restaurant, thinking she would be another victim of their scam.

Before the dinner, I warned my mom about their usual tricks. She laughed it off, confident she’d handle it. Sure enough, when the bill came, my in-laws vanished one by one, leaving my mom alone with a $1500 tab. But my mom had a plan.

She ordered a dessert and asked the waiter to call the manager. Turns out, the manager was an old student of hers. She had him call my in-laws and threaten them with a dine-and-dash charge. They rushed back, only to find a hefty “inconvenience fee” added to the bill.

The best part? The next time we went out, my mother-in-law loudly announced, “We’re paying separately tonight,” ensuring they’d never pull the same trick again.
