…Linda looked like she might faint from sheer indignation. Richard’s jaw worked furiously, as though he were chewing on every angry word he wanted to unleash but didn’t quite dare.
“We raised you better than this,” Linda finally hissed.
Mark wrapped an arm around my waist and said, calm but firm, “You raised me to stand up for myself. That’s exactly what I’m doing.”
A stunned silence followed. Linda and Richard looked at each other, as if trying to decide whether to argue further or accept defeat.
The concierge cleared her throat gently. “Your car to the airport is waiting, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison. Shall I take your bags?”
It was the final blow. Without a word, Richard shoved the suitcase handle toward her. Linda followed, but not before turning to me with narrowed eyes. “You’ll regret this.”
I gave her a cheerful wave. “Have a safe flight!”
As the car pulled away, Mark and I stood on the balcony, the breeze playing with our hair. He looked down at me, still a little dazed. “I can’t believe you did that.”
I grinned. “You gave me the green light.”
He laughed, then leaned in and kissed me. “Best honeymoon ever.”
And with his parents out of the picture, it truly was.
