The Day My Best Friend Turned Into a Stranger

I’m originally from Peru, but my family and I moved to Canada when I was ten. At the time, I barely spoke any English. I still remember my first day at school—how scared I was, surrounded by a language I couldn’t understand and people I didn’t know.
Then I met him.
He walked right up to me, smiled, and introduced himself as Fabri. He said he also spoke Spanish. From that moment on, we were inseparable. Fabri helped me learn English, stood by me during the hardest moments, and for years, he was my best friend.
But everything changed in sixth grade.
When the new school year started, things felt normal—at first. Then Fabri became close with a new kid named Tyler. I didn’t mind. In fact, Tyler and I also became friends. But things took a dark turn. Tyler started insulting me, making fun of my accent, and even nearly injured me during a fight. Then Fabri—my best friend—turned on me too. He said Tyler was a better friend and kicked me out of our group.
I was heartbroken. But I knew I needed to move on.
That’s when I met Nolan. We hit it off instantly and became close friends. Tyler eventually joined our group too, but this time, he didn’t insult me. I was okay with him being around.
Then, Fabri came back.
He joined our group again—but this time, things were different. He wasn’t the center of attention anymore. He couldn’t control me like before. I could tell that bothered him.
Then one day, he pulled me aside and apologized. He admitted he was jealous. Not of Nolan—but of the fact that Nolan was now my best friend. I didn’t say much in response, but in my mind, I thought:
“I’m not letting him take another friend from me.”
For now, that’s where the story ends. But if you want to know what happened next—or want more details—let me know in the comments.
