Ay, Ay, Ay, the Drama: Life with a Six-Year-Old

You can’t make this stuff up.
At 3:40 AM, I woke up to hear my 6-year-old calling, “Dad? Dad?”
I found her outside the bathroom. “I’m worried flushing the toilet will wake you up,” she said.
I pointed out that I was already awake—because she had called me.
She just shrugged, did her business, and went back to bed.
Meanwhile, I tossed and turned for an hour trying to fall back asleep.
Six is a wild ride.
I spent so much time narrating life to my firstborn as a baby to help his language skills, and now he narrates everything back—nonstop.
But honestly, it’s worth it for the gems I get:
-
“I have troubling news.”
-
“I’m available to play when you have spare time.”
-
“Well, that’s just so on and so forth.”
-
And my favorite: “Ay, ay, ay, the drama!”
Parenting is exhausting. And hilarious.
