“THE MAN ON TV USED TO PICK ME UP FROM SCHOOL”

When Kien was 5, he called a news anchor on TV “Daddy.” His parents laughed it off. Over a decade later, seeing the anchor again, Kien went pale and said, “He used to pick me up from school.”

His dad was stunned—only he and Kien’s mom had ever picked him up. But Kien remembered a black car, candy, and the man saying Dad was too busy.

Digging deeper, they found old footage of a black Volvo near the school. No clear evidence. The anchor, Lars Deylan, had no record—but mysteriously resigned after the family sent him an anonymous message.

Then Meira, Kien’s mom, confessed she’d once had a drunken night with Lars years ago, while pregnant. Maybe Lars suspected Kien was his.

They told Kien the truth. He didn’t need a DNA test.

“You raised me,” he told his dad. “That’s all I need to know.”

Because family isn’t just blood—it’s who shows up.
