The Cost of One Honest Remark

I worked at a fancy restaurant where the guests were always rich and demanding. One exhausting shift, my nerves were frayed — every guest seemed ruder than the last. Then, this one man came in.
He was curt from the start, ordering only the cheapest dishes, snapping at me to be quick, and even lecturing me on how to do my job. When I came to clear his plate — food he hadn’t finished — he sneered, “You can finish it. You eat after us, don’t you?”
Without thinking, I fired back, “Actually, you eat after us.”
The shock on his face was priceless. But that honesty cost me — I got fired that day.
