From an Awkward Encounter to Something Real

I once saw a gorgeous blonde woman at a restaurant and decided to shoot my shot. She was on the phone, then looked up at me with a smile. But just as the waitress approached, she suddenly scowled and shouted, “You don’t deserve a dime!”
I was stunned.
Then the blonde turned to me, smirking, and said, “Don’t worry about her.” But that moment was enough — the arrogance, the disrespect — I was completely turned off. I smiled politely and walked away.
Instead, I went over to the waitress to make sure she was okay. I used to work in the service industry too, so we swapped stories and laughs. By the end of the night, I asked her out.
That was four years ago — and we’re still together.
The Universe Has a Funny Way
A while later, I saw a guy at a bus stop and felt an instant connection. We both got on the same bus, but I figured that would be the end of it.
To my surprise, we got off at the same stop — and standing there waiting was my best friend. Turns out she had met him on a dating app.
Unfortunately, she didn’t treat him — or anyone — very well. But he and I just clicked. When she broke things off, we naturally found our way to each other.
It’s been five years now.
We’re happy.
And no — I don’t speak to her anymore.
