Lisa, the cousin of the narrator, announced her engagement, and the family was very excited. She sent out elegant “save the date” cards, which made the narrator hopeful to be invited.
However, as the wedding date approached, the narrator didn’t receive an actual invitation. After asking Lisa about it, she was told the wedding would be a very small, intimate event in Las Vegas with only about ten people, mostly immediate family, due to budget constraints.
The narrator felt hurt and left out, especially because she was close to Lisa, but understood the decision given the cost of weddings.
