“The Vacation That Wasn’t”

Out of the blue, my husband surprises me with a trip. “Go to the sea, you’re exhausted,” he says. I’m touched, and honestly, a little suspicious—but I go anyway.

So there I am, lounging on the beach, enjoying the sun, when I get a notification: he’s posted a photo online. It’s a dinner table… and there’s a woman’s hand next to the plate. My stomach drops. My mind races. That was it—he’d gone too far.

I fly back home, heart pounding, and burst into the apartment… only to find my husband sitting there, looking perfectly calm. And next to him? My cousin, whom I hadn’t seen in ten years.

Turns out, they were planning a “surprise.” They thought I’d come home, see her, and go, “Surprise!” Instead, I just stood there, feeling like an idiot.

Later, I sheepishly admitted: I recognized the hand in the photo and rushed back… because I missed her so much. Epic failure, but at least now we all had a good laugh—eventually.
