Emily asked her MIL to watch her 4-year-old for a couple of hours. When she came home, her heart sank — her little boy was sitting alone on the front steps, clutching his stuffed dinosaur.
“Grandma said she’d be right back,” he told her.
Emily called and her MIL cheerfully admitted she’d just left for a salad. “I was gone ten minutes, tops. He’s not a baby anymore.”
Emily was furious. What if he had wandered into the street or been taken? Her husband sided with her — and they agreed: Grandma would never babysit again.
Now the MIL plays the victim, but Emily knows: a 4-year-old should never be left alone.
