Royal insiders have revealed that the late Prince Philip once gave Meghan Markle a cutting nickname.
After Meghan joined the royal family, Prince Philip reportedly compared her to Wallis Simpson — the American divorcee whose marriage to King Edward VIII led to his abdication in 1936.
According to royal biographer Ingrid Seward, Philip often referred to Meghan privately as “D.O.W.” — short for Duchess of Windsor, believing she shared traits with Simpson: American, divorced, and disruptive to royal tradition.
While the Queen hoped Meghan would modernize the monarchy, Philip remained cautious, fearing history might repeat itself.
Years later, Meghan and Harry stepped away from royal duties and settled in California — echoing, in Philip’s eyes, the same path taken decades earlier by Edward and Wallis.
