The Bedroom That Watched Back

ena clicked on the puzzle, thinking it would be just another silly challenge.

“Find the book, egg, cup, and pillow in 17 seconds.”
Easy, she thought.

The timer in her head started. She scanned the photo fast — bed, lamp, blanket, wall. Nothing. Her eyes jumped from corner to corner, but the more she rushed, the less she saw.

“Come on…” she whispered.

Then she slowed down.

She noticed a strange curve in the lampshade — the outline of a cup.
A pattern on the blanket that wasn’t just a pattern — it was a book spine blended into the fabric.
A small oval shape hiding in the curtain shadow — the egg.
And finally, the “pillow” that wasn’t on the bed at all, but disguised as a shape on the chair in the corner.

She leaned back and laughed.

The picture was the same as at the start.
The only thing that changed was how she looked at it.

That night, as she lay in her own bedroom, she caught herself scanning the corners and shadows again. Not for hidden objects this time — but for the quiet details of life she usually missed when she rushed.
