Grey’s Anatomy Star Passed Away At 53
Eric Dane, best known for playing Dr. Mark Sloan (“McSteamy”) on Grey’s Anatomy, has died at the age of 53. He passed away on Feb. 19 following a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), which he publicly revealed in 2025.
Born on Nov. 9, 1972, in San Francisco, Dane began his career with guest roles in the 1990s before rising to fame on Grey’s Anatomy in 2006. After leaving the show in 2012, he appeared in films like X-Men: The Last Stand and starred as Cal Jacobs on HBO’s Euphoria.
He is survived by his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters. Dane is remembered for his charisma, talent, and advocacy for ALS awareness.
