Mum labeled a “monster” for lasering port-wine stain birthmark on her baby’s face after birth

A mother named Brooke Atkins from Australia gave birth to a baby boy named Kingsley in 2022. Kingsley was born with port-wine stain birthmarks covering half of his face, including the area near his eye.

Doctors warned that birthmarks in that location could lead to serious health problems, including glaucoma (which can cause blindness) and Sturge-Weber syndrome, a rare neurological condition.

Because of this risk, doctors recommended laser treatment. The treatment wasn’t meant to remove the birthmark for cosmetic reasons — it was meant to keep the skin healthy and reduce medical complications.

Brooke agreed to the treatment to protect her son’s health.

However, after she shared videos of Kingsley on TikTok, many people online criticized her. Some even called her a monster”, claiming she was hurting her baby for cosmetic reasons.

The comments upset Brooke and made her question her decision, but doctors and many supportive people reassured her that she was doing the right thing for her child’s health.

Kingsley has since undergone several laser treatments and is doing well and responding positively. His mother says she is now at peace with the decision and focuses on helping her son stay healthy.

In short:
A mother chose medical laser treatment to protect her baby’s health, but social media misunderstood the reason and criticized her — even though doctors recommended it.
