Savannah Guthrie Announces Exciting New NBC Role as Host of Wordle Game Show

Savannah Guthrie is stepping into a brand-new role at NBC as the host of the network’s upcoming Wordle-inspired game show.

The announcement was made during the May 11 episode of Today, where Jimmy Fallon joined Guthrie live on air to reveal the exciting project. Fallon, who serves as executive producer of the series, shared that development on the show has been underway for more than two years in partnership with The New York Times, the owner of the wildly popular Wordle game.

“This is very exciting,” Fallon said during the broadcast. “We’ve been developing Wordle as a game show for the past two-and-a-half years, and now it’s official.”

Guthrie admitted the team had kept the project secret for a long time and described the upcoming series as “super fast-paced and fun,” adding that it will be a family-friendly program designed for viewers of all ages.

Fallon praised Guthrie as the ideal choice to host the show, joking that they needed “someone who looks like they play Wordle.” Guthrie responded with humor, saying she thought she was chosen because her outfit resembled the game’s colorful design.

Beyond the excitement of the new role, Guthrie also spoke emotionally about returning to work after a difficult personal period involving her family. She thanked NBC, Fallon, Universal, and The New York Times for their support and patience during the challenging time.

“It kind of feels strange to do everything right now,” Guthrie shared. “But this is something that’s full of joy.”
