My MIL Stole Every Wedding Gift While We Were on Our Honeymoon — But We Didn’t Let It Slide

Jake and I had just gotten married after saving carefully for our small wedding, and the gifts we received meant everything to us—basic appliances and home essentials to help us start our life together.
The day after the wedding, we left for our honeymoon. Before we went, we gave Jake’s mother, Linda, a spare key and asked her to water the plants. We trusted her completely.
When we returned a week later, we were shocked. Our home was nearly empty. The coffee maker, air fryer, blender, cookware, towels—everything was gone. In their place was a note from Linda saying she had taken the gifts to “keep them safe” until we were more settled.
We immediately confronted her and found all our belongings unpacked and in use at her house. Jake stood his ground, telling her we would call the police if she didn’t return everything.
After a tense argument, she finally gave in. It took hours, but we loaded every item back into our car.
That day, Jake made it clear: our boundaries mattered, and spare keys to our home would no longer be handed out so freely—even to family.
