EPISODE 9 — THE TRUTH ABOUT ME

The warehouse stood at the edge of the city.

Abandoned.

Dark.

Silent.

Before leaving, Daniel contacted the police.

He sent them copies of the evidence.

But I still had to go inside.

Because Richard had Mom.

I walked through the warehouse doors.

“Richard!”

My voice echoed through the building.

Then I heard him.

“Lena.”

He stepped out of the shadows.

My mother was tied to a chair behind him.

“Let her go.”

Richard smiled.

“You look just like her.”

“Don’t talk about my mother.”

“She was the only woman I ever loved.”

Mom stared at him.

“You destroyed everything.”

Richard ignored her.

“You don’t understand what your father did.”

“He raised me.”

“He stole you from me.”

“You abandoned me.”

Richard’s expression hardened.

“I was young.”

“You had twenty-two years.”

He said nothing.

I stepped closer.

“You killed Dad because he protected me.”

Richard finally admitted it.

“He was going to expose me.”

“Did you kill him?”

“Yes.”

The word echoed through the warehouse.

My stomach turned.

“You killed my father.”

“He wasn’t your biological father.”

“He was more of a father than you ever were.”

Richard became furious.

“You don’t know what he took from me.”

“He gave me a life.”

Then police sirens sounded outside.

Richard turned.

His face changed.

“You called them.”

“No.”

Daniel appeared behind him.

“I did.”

Police officers entered the warehouse.

Richard grabbed my mother and tried to escape.

But the evidence had already been delivered.

The corrupt officer was arrested that same night.

Richard was taken into custody.

As he was being led away, he looked at me.

“You’re still my daughter.”

I shook my head.

“No.”

I looked at Mom.

Then at the empty space where Dad should have been.

“My father was the man who raised me.”

Richard said nothing.
