It felt surreal, like a strange twist in a story I couldn’t have written. I went from being someone who thought the gift card was just a reminder of how frugal my grandfather was, to someone whose life was about to change forever.
The lesson here? Sometimes, being careful with money can pay off in unexpected ways. But more importantly, it’s also a reminder that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to show people you care. You can make someone’s day, or even their life, better with something simple, thoughtful, or meaningful — like the memory of a small gift from a loved one.
