After being together for 7.5 years, my boyfriend and I recently welcomed our daughter. I’m a nurse, and he’s a surgeon. Since I’m currently not working, I stay home while he supports us.
To my shock, he asked for a paternity test to confirm the baby is his. He said he just wants to be 100% sure and doesn’t want to face surprises like in movies. However, he also said that because I’m home alone a lot and he’s rarely around, he doesn’t know what I’m doing—implying distrust.
I’ve always been faithful despite some of his past mistakes, which I forgave. He even told his coworkers about the test, which hurt me deeply.
If he wants to pay for the test, I’m fine with it, but the way he’s framing it makes me feel like I’m the one being unfaithful.
Many people say this is his projection of his own behavior and that he’s the one who struggles with trust.
