The Anniversary “Treat”

Amanda invited us to a fancy dinner for her and Jeff’s 15th anniversary, saying sweetly, “It’s our treat, honey.” We even brought a $200 gift card to be thoughtful.
Dinner was lovely—until the bill came. With a smile, Amanda told the waiter, “We’ll take this one,” then gestured at us and said, “And they’ll take that one.” Our share? $1,122.
Shocked, I asked, “Weren’t we your guests?” She replied, “We invited you to join, not pay for you.”
The next day, I posted the receipt, her message, and their smiling faces on Facebook with the caption: “Modern etiquette: invite guests, then bill them. #lessonlearned.”
Amanda begged me to take it down. I refused. “I don’t want the money,” I said. “I want you to feel what humiliation looks like.”
We haven’t spoken since — and honestly, that silence? Priceless.
