The Day My Daughter Learned About Life’s Little Mysteries

One evening, my daughter asked, “Where do babies come from?”
I explained gently — that babies grow in their mother’s tummy, surrounded by love.
The next day, a boy in her class told her something different —
that babies come from cabbages. 🥬
My daughter proudly corrected him, sure she was right.
But soon after, his parents called me, asking to talk.
They told me the “cabbage story” was a family tradition — a playful way to explain life to kids. Their son felt sad thinking his version wasn’t true anymore.
So I smiled and said,
“What if we tell them both stories can be true?
Babies are born with love,
and the cabbage garden… is where the dreams of families grow.” 🌼
They loved the idea.
A week later, the school held a “Garden of Stories” day.
Children drew their own versions of where life begins —
some drew cabbages, others stars, some drew families holding hands.
My daughter smiled and said,
“Stories are like seeds — they grow in different ways,
but they all make the world beautiful.”
And the boy added, laughing,
“Even cabbages can grow magic.” ✨
